Vacation

i am at the cabin and having a weeks vacation. i brought lots of books and stitching but i tend to stare at the water a lot.

i went out this morning at low tide and took lots of pics to put here. then realized when i returned that i didn't bring the camera cord to the computer. boring..i guess the pictures i take don't change from year to year. DSC01470

lots of oysters that i can't eat. after loving them for years i became allergic. one year i had to be flown off the island in a helicopter because it was thought i had paralytic shellfood poisoning. turns out i am allergic. so you know the old song..

oysters oysters everywhere and not a one to eat....

theo looks the same as last year. he loves being here and just being a dog. he can wander without a leash. he comes home and i don't worry too much, just not at nite since he would chase the deer.

i am working on the quilt. no new pics but the quilting is done and now i'm embellishing. just did a feather. i have an idea about a little pocket. more on that later.

this is an amazing place. i don't want to live here year round. being on an island in winter with only a small foot ferry for escape is not my idea of fun. i get seasick.  but the place is so peaceful with long periods of no sound except the wind or birds. i think next summer i plan to be here for a month. i hope to retire this year in december. some travel first with the doc and then a month or more here. i want to reset my inner clock to a time without getting up to go to work. i wonder how long that will take? surely my body will remember.

i forget here that things don't have to be done right away. i spent the first day cleaning cobwebs and dead carcasses out of windows. finally i stopped and sat down and stared for a while. i can abide the cobwebs for bit and have some quiet time.

the sun just came out and it is glorious. better take advantage and get out there..

Quilts and Blackberries

it has been a while since i was here. summer is here and it is my favorite time. i have spent some time traveling and lots of time hanging out on the deck. i feel like i am still behind in stitching. this weekend i picked blackberries. they grow everywhere here and i was able to just cross the street and pick buckets.. Blackberries

i made jam, a blackberry pie and  blackberry cordial. i love to can. it always reminds me of my grandma. she called it putting up.. it was fun and i can't wait to try to the cordial. you have to wait for months, so it will be a winter thing. Cordials

the other thing i'm doing is stitching on a quilt that my daughter and i are doing togehter. we are doing it for a friend's new baby. hopefully, it won't be in school before it's finished. i do spirit cloth stitching and daughter does traditional. i had lots of indigo fabrics that were mostly bought, but a few were my own. i did some squares and she did the rest. i am now trying to quilt it and do some extra stitching.

poor daughter had a hard time fitting all my misshapen squares into her perfect quilt. i think she did a great job. she did the last nine patch and even she did a little different take on the nine patch.

i wish i could do more on the blog for day to day life. i'm not sure anyone would read it anyway. maybe it is just for me. when i retire i will try to do more.

i am still watching it all from afar. keeping up with all the stitching and ideas over at judes. thinking of what i will do next. right now this quilt is taking all my stitching time. i am so pleased to do it together.
